An access log is a comprehensive list of all the files which were accessed by the visitors of a particular website. Any file which was requested for some reason shall be listed, so if you have just one page with three embedded pictures, one video and one embedded text file, for example, the access log will contain a total of 6 entries - one for any of the 6 files which were accessed when the visitor opened the webpage. A log typically provides the file name and path, the date, in addition to the visitor’s OS, browser and IP address. In some cases you may also find the referrer websites that sent the visitors to your website. The information that an access log file features is in human-readable plain text format. It can also be processed by special software on a PC and used to write reports on the functionality of a website, aside from the web stats which your web hosting server may have created.

Once you sign in to your shared hosting account and go to this section, you will find a list of all the domain names and subdomains that you have. All it takes to allow the generation of access logs is to click on a button that will be available next to each and every domain/subdomain. When the option is enabled, you'll see a download link together with the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your PC and look at it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective immediately, so if you no longer need one, you may stop it with simply a click from the exact same section of the CP.
