Whenever you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that specific provider. On their end, 3 records are created automatically when the domain address is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain address where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that handles the e-mails for that specific Internet domain. The website and the email hosting are typically thought to be one thing, when they're in reality two different services. Having separate records for them will enable you to have them with different companies if you'd like. For example, some new company may have outstanding uptime for your site, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain name to the first and MX records to have the emails with the latter, you will get the best of both providers. These records are checked when you want to open a website or send an email - in any case, the provider whose name servers are used for the domain name is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed site or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account with our company and you would like to switch either your site or your emails to an alternative company, it's going to take you literally only 2 mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia Control Panel provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard two, it won't take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a particular MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you change or set up will not take more than several hours and if required, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will stay active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with our semi-dedicated hosting plans, will enable you to see the A and MX records for each of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if required, to edit any of them or set up new ones. Handling these records is quite easy because all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes only a few more clicks and if you experience any problems, you can check out our educational videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to give you 100 % control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are pointing your e-mails to a different company and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
